Quad rental on Zakynthos?

You discover Zakynthos best on four wheels, and we don't mean a rental car. With a quad you race over narrow mountain paths to deserted beaches, ride along the cliffs near Navagio, and stop wherever you want, without worrying about parking spots. It's the way to explore the island at your own pace and reach places where the tour bus never goes. Whether you're stepping onto a quad for the first time or have ridden plenty of times before: in this article we tell you everything you need to know about renting a quad on Zakynthos. From prices and license to the most beautiful routes across the island. Want to compare prices first?

My experience renting a quad on Zakynthos

I rented my quad in Alikanas, across from the Letsos Hotel where I was staying. There are several rental companies in that area within walking distance, so you can just walk by and compare prices before you choose. I had my quad for 4 days and that was exactly enough to drive around the whole island at my own pace without rushing.

The experience was good. The quad was delivered with a full tank, they gave a short explanation of how it drives, let me do a lap on the parking lot to get used to it, and then I could go. Helmet and basic insurance were included in the price.

What I would recommend in hindsight: preferably book 2 to 3 days in advance if you go in high season, because the popular models go quickly. And check the tires and brakes before you ride off. Mine were fine, but you do hear stories from others that this leaves something to be desired at some rental companies.

The most beautiful quad routes on Zakynthos

The island isn't very big, so you can see quite a lot in a day. Still, it's nicer to spread it across a few rides, so you're not on your quad all day. Below I share my favorite route. Through this link you can put it directly into Google Maps. Want to put it directly into Google Maps The total route is about 138 kilometers and the pure driving time around 3 to 4 hours. But with stops to swim, take photos, and have lunch, you're easily busy a whole day. Leave early, that way you can catch the sunset at Keri Lighthouse as a finale.

Prefer a guided quad tour on Zakynthos?

Don't want to plan a route yourself and just want to ride along? Then a guided quad tour is a good option. You ride in a group with a guide who knows the most beautiful off-road paths, places where you'd probably never come on your own. Most tours last half a day to a whole day and pass viewpoints, deserted beaches, and small villages in the interior. In between you stop to swim and with some tours you also get a traditional Greek lunch. A quad or buggy is arranged for you, including helmet and explanation beforehand. Convenient if you've never been on a quad before. Prices are around 50 to 100 euros per person, depending on the duration and what's included. Do book on time because in high season the tours fill up fast.

Refueling on Zakynthos: what you need to know

The quads you rent are small and use little fuel. For a full lap around the island (138 km) you usually have plenty on one tank. Still a few practical things:

  • Gas stations are mainly found in and around Zakynthos Town, Laganas, and Tsilivi. In the north and west (towards Navagio or Anafonitria) they are scarce, don't drive there hoping to refuel.
  • Gas prices on Zakynthos are around the Greek average, expect about €1.80 to €2.00 per liter (2026 prices, check on the spot).
  • Pick up full, return full is the rule at most rental companies. If you don't, they often charge a hefty surcharge for refueling.
  • Cash or card? Larger stations accept both, smaller gas stations inland sometimes only cash. Always bring some euros.
  • Fuel type: most quads run on regular gasoline (95 or 98 octane). Check when picking up which type your quad needs, refueling with the wrong type can be an expensive mistake.
