My tips and experiences from the Netherlands.
Why the Netherlands?
You quickly underestimate the Netherlands when you live here yourself. I grew up here and only later started looking at what the country actually has to offer. From the dunes on the Wadden Islands to the forests of the Veluwe and the old city centers of Utrecht or Maastricht. A short trip in your own country is often cheaper, easier to arrange, and surprisingly fun.

Frequently asked questions
That depends on what you're looking for. For city trips, Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Maastricht are great. For nature you can head to the Veluwe, the Biesbosch, or the Wadden Islands. In my articles I share per place what's worth visiting.
Spring and summer are most pleasant, with long days and good weather. Autumn is beautiful for hiking and nature, especially on the Veluwe. In winter the cities are cozy with Christmas markets and lights.
The Netherlands isn't a budget destination, but not extremely expensive either. Expect around 80 to 150 euros per person per day for accommodation, food, and activities. Outside the Randstad you'll often pay less.
By train you can reach almost everywhere, and the OV-fiets (rental bike) is ideal for the last mile. If you want more flexibility, a car or camper is handy, especially for the Wadden Islands and the Veluwe.
